Re: “Housing State of the Union

It's an artificial shortage. The country just doesn't give a darn about anyone but the well off. Government needs to step in, starting from Washington DC on down. We have trillions for the military but ZERO for people working two jobs and still can't make it. The poor frequently pay at a higher tax rate than the well to do. The crazies have taken over, and they expect everything to be peachy keen.

Re: “Prices Up, Inventory Tight

This is crazy. The construction industry should be ashamed of themselves and so should the city of Bend. There is no excuse other than they want poor people to be out of sight, BUT BE ON THE JOB - ON TIME! America has gone to the dogs. Unfortunately those who would like to move to more humane environs are SOL. Foreigners don't want us. They think we're all packing AR-15's.

Re: “Water, Water, Everywhere!

The Cascades from Mt. Jefferson south to Mt. Bachelor suck up the snow melt, send it down under the mountains - it migrates south to Mt. Bachelor and then into Wikiup Reservoir where the 20 year old water rises to the surface and provides a full measure of winter runoff. No water shortage in Bend, nor for Tumalo Irrigation District water customers. Further East, they're pounding sand. It's the fickleness of geology.

Re: “A Question of Semantics

I love Doug Knight's qualifier: Where you live is where you unload your groceries. Otherwise you could say "I intend to live within the Bend city limits because I'm eyeing a really nice apartment near St. Charles Medical Center! The apartment is already built and I've got an application in at the rental office!

Re: “Won't You Be My Neighbor?

To: My neighbor has rights? You're offering a very blue blood, "let them eat cake" perspective on a situation where people who buy homes have a right to a suitable neighborhood - not noise, trash, neglected landscaping, lack of maintenance on a house - those things that brings down property values and "neighborhood living." The constitution was not written by the rich and for the rich. And a regulatory taking does not, in any way, pertain to this discussion. Sounds like you've talked to a lawyer who told you what you wanted to hear and is hoping you go to court so you can lose quickly and he still gets his full fee. Do a little homework and save yourself a lotta grief and even more money.

Europe is smarter than the U.S. on a rainbow of issues and challenges. The American people don't know about them because CORPORATE TELEVISION keeps'em stupid. American Television: An endless wasteland.

Re: “Movin' on Up

Well written article...Erin Rook boiled down a mountain of information to a size and degree of detail that readers can grasp a very complicated story. However, the idea that the new college would schedule their classes to not conflict with surrounding public and private schools was just a tiny bit off the mark. The word SHOULD was used, not SHALL. But really nice job Erin. Much more readable and understandable than what the "big dog" put out.
