Don't Suffer Dog Abuse

This past weekend one of my employees witnessed a man beat his dog, not once, but three times, each time climbing further into his vehicle and punching the dog harder and harder until the car shook. This occurred down at the Farewell Bend Park. Another passerby also witnessed it. They called the police and reported it. The man didn't stop even after they screamed at him to stop. The man weighed around 200lbs - the dog about 35lbs. I would like to see an article about the animal cruelty laws and what the public can do if they see something like this. I am a local veterinarian and own my practice. I think this would be a very worthwhile subject to write about.

Editor's Note: Oregon has an animal cruelty statute which says that any person who intentionally causes physical injury to an animal can be convicted of a Class Misdemeanor, punishable by up to a maximum one year in prison.
