Family-Friendly Music

Families who enjoy music together have something really great going for them and falling asleep to live outdoor music as a kid is really the best. Central Oregon has several events that are fun for the entire family and it all starts June 5 with the Bend Memorial Clinic Free Summer Sunday Concerts at the Les Schwab Amphitheater. These afternoon concerts are family focused and dog friendly. Parents get to hear headliners from across the country and kids get bouncy house time.

For those looking for that really all-American experience, and more memories to last a lifetime, La Pine Frontier Days offers all that one could ever hope to find. This annual event over the Fourth of July includes everything from a carnival to a quilt show to a talent competition to live music. The Music on the Green will include two shows this year: The Bad Cats and Highway 97 on July 2 and The Armadillos on the Fourth of July. Stay until dark to see the fireworks.

For those who already have their hearts set on a little road trip to the Britt Music Festival in Jacksonville, there are seven free morning music concerts for children this year in the Performance Garden. Parents and grandparents can look forward to such performers as Diana Ross, Chicago and Lyle Lovett.

Another day trip possibility is the Oregon State Fair in Salem, about 2.5 hours away. The shows at the L.B. Day Amphitheater are a great way to end an afternoon of 4-H exhibits, carnival rides, and entertainment. Closer to home, the Deschutes County Fair and Rodeo in Redmond has a concert lineup this year that is very impressive, with Tracy Lawrence, Queensryche, Trace Adkins and the Wallflowers performing.
