Bluebeard's Castle & 2015 Fly Fishing Tour

Iolanta\Bluebeard's Castle

Three hours and forty minutes of operatic splendor brought straight to your eye and ear holes by the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Bluebeard's Castle is a dark fantasy that loosely examines the Bluebeard folk tale through a psychological and psycho-sexual lens. Yeah, nothing light here. And not to lighten the mood, Iolanta is a one-act lyric opera based on the Danish play, King Rene's Daughter. This has always been an interesting and tense opera, as audience reactions have been consistently positive, Tchaikovsky went to his grave expressing disappointment about the piece. Sat Feb 14, Old Mill Stadium. 680 SW Powerhouse Dr. $18-$22

2015 Fly Fishing Film Tour

I haven't been in a park in months without seeing someone teaching a lesson on fly fishing. (Pro-tip: Do NOT tell them they would have better luck in a lake.) Something more to get them hooked, the Fly Fishing Film Festival. Some of the films include: Co2ld Waters: a film shot in Montana focusing on angling and climate change; 90 Miles, a film about the distance between the Florida Keys and Cuba, and the big water fishing found in between; and Carpland, a documentary about the history of carp in the United States. Although decades younger than the Warren Miller ski films, fly fishing films are quickly filling the same niche: Inciting excitement, while also serving as a travelogue, and reinforcing that there are plenty of people out there doing the same sport, just in a bit different style. Tues and Wed, Feb 10 & 11. The Tower Theatre. 835 NW Wall St. $15
