Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret

Cowspiracy is a documentary focused on the animal agriculture industry and the staggering figure that it occupies up to 45 percent of all land globally and uses one third of all fresh water.

The film also looks into the idea that enough food is grown in 2014 to feed 12 billion people but 50 percent of the world's grains are fed to livestock and what we can do as Americans to start changing some of those figures. Filmmakers Kip Anderson and Keegan Kuhn will be on hand to discuss the film and field any questions.

Wed., July 23, 9 pm, Salud Raw Foods, FREE

Of Girls and Horses

Part of Volcanic Theatre Pub's LGBT monthly movie series, Of Girls and Horses tells the story of Alex, a 16-year-old girl experimenting with drugs and cutting. When her mother sends her out to intern on a farm, she is initially resistant to the environment until she starts falling in love with horses and bonding with a privileged girl named Kathy. The film is in German with English subtitles.

Mon., July 28, 7pm, Volcanic Theatre Pub, $5

We Were Not Tramp Sheepmen

A one-time-only screening presented by Kevin D. Hatfield, Ph.D., adjunct assistant professor of the department of history at the University of Oregon. The documentary examines Joe Odiaga and the Oregon-Idaho Biskaian Basque community from 1890-1946. Joe Odiaga was known as the "Basque Patrick Henry," as he taught his fellow Basque-Americans how to creatively resist eviction from their cattle's grazing grounds by the federal government.

Tue, July 29, 6pm, McMenamins, FREE

Glenn Beck: We Will Not Conform

Regal is on a roll lately, with this film, America (a hit piece on Hillary Clinton), God is Not Dead (self-explanatory) and all of the other political/religious propaganda being pushed at theatergoers over the last six months. Now, Glenn Beck. With his off-kilter, tear-filled outbursts, rampant fear mongering and an almost impressive amount of huckstering for buying gold, Beck is, if nothing else, entertaining. This one is all about the indoctrination of children in schools from nasty progressive liberals and "homo-sin-ual" teachers. What the what?

Tue., July 29, 7:30 pm. Regal Cinema. $18.
