Little Bites: Food Events Abound

On the heels of Spork's pop-up restaurant at Café Sintra comes spin on sit-down dining, this time from 5 Fusion and Sushi Bar. On Thursday, Feb. 3, 5 Fusion will kick off its monthly supper club with a Chinese New Year celebration. This particular dinner will be a little spendy - $100 - but it's fully inclusive and the proceeds go to charity, in this case the Kid's Center. Judging from the success of Spork's pop-up, 5 Fusion shouldn't have a hard time filling the place. Diners will be treated to a traditional eight-course Chinese New Year dinner, including cocktail pairings from Oregon Spirit Distillers spirits. According to owner Lilian Chu, eight is a universally lucky number in Chinese culture, hence the eight courses. We're pretty sure we'll be feeling lucky too after putting down eight courses and cocktail pairings. Seating is limited to 30 people and tickets can be bought through the Kid's Center by calling Joni at 541-383-5958.

Beyond Bend

The iconic Tumalo Feed Co. is also hosting a special fixed-price dinner, if that term even applies to the down home steak house where sides are served in baskets. The restaurant celebrates 20 years in Tumalo on Feb. 13 with a $75-a-head dinner that begins with a no-host "howdy hour" at 6 p.m. A prime rib and scampi dinner follows. The evening culminates with live music and dancing. Dress is "cowboy formal" according to TFC and seats are limited to 130 reservations.

Foodie Alert

Bend's foodie scene isn't just limited to restaurants - a local author and New York-based food stylist who recently penned a cookbook together will be at Newport Market. Former Shape senior editor and Bend resident Suzanne Schlosberg and Real Simple food stylist Sara Quessenberry will be signing their book, The Good Neighbor Cookbook next Saturday. The book is organized by occasion - perfect for those who routinely host holiday meals or dinner parties and need a shake-up. The book includes a "Get Well Soon" chapter, with immune system-boosting foods - great for those of us who resort to downing a can of chicken noodle soup - as well as chapters on foods for book clubs and easy dishes for block parties and barbeques. Schlosberg has previously written or co-written ten books and has appeared in numerous national magazines. Meet the local writer and her co-author at Newport Market on 1121 NW Newport Ave Sat. Feb 5 from 3-5 p.m.

Little Bites: Thanksgiving Dinner is Served! Restaurants that will cook for you on Thursday

While many of us are going to be slaving over stoves, stuffing, brining or the always fun deep-frying our butterball turkeys this Thursday, there are options for those who don't feel like sticking their hands in the cavity of a 20-pound bird or cutting up the neck to stew some gravy. For all of you who would rather have a skilled chef prepare your fixins, here's a list of restaurants serving Thanksgiving Dinner, courtesy of Visit Bend.
