Four Percent

That's the projected decrease in the city of Bend's share of property tax revenues next year, according to the Deschutes County Assessor's Office. Property tax dollars represent the single biggest revenue stream for the city, accounting for about 60 percent of the total budget. Like other areas, including building fees, tax revenues have taken a hit thanks to the recession, which has left a trail of unpaid property tax bills. The result could be more lay-offs and reductions of service as the city of Bend wrestles with a five-year $27 million deficit.
