Re: “Somebody has to Pay

IP 28 money is intended only to assure that the unreasonable wage increases the governor negotiated with public employee unions and the overspending that has occurred during the last two legislative sessions controlled by a democratic senate, house and governor have approved absent any money to pay for them. Oregon is in the business of controlling and thus destroying Oregon businesses trough mandated wages, sick leave, etc. which is being touted as "helping" the poor when actually, it will result in eliminating thousands of jobs and placing an ever increasing number of workers on the public gravy train. I am a retired state worker, and quite honestly, public employees and retired public employees need to face reality and stop bankrupting the state.

Re: “Editorial 1/27-2/3

What is not being talked about here is the fact that 99.8% of the electricity generated in Oregon is renewable. We are suffering the environmental consequences of hundreds of thousands of acres of wind farms, paying the incentives to build them, and then the "green energy" is being sent to other states. More than 50% and I have seen figures as high as 75% of the wind energy generated in Oregon goes to places like California where they brag about the amount of renewable energy they use, but are not damaging their state to produce it. We produce more electricity than we use, but we don't get credit for most of the dam generated electricity or any of the wind and solar energy being sent out of state. Now the "renewable energy" lobby is pushing for Oregon to have to use 50% renewable energy (which they have now defined as excluding most of the energy in the state). Oregon cannot afford, nor do we want to destroy the beauty, wildlife, economic basis, and pay increased electric rates and taxes to become nothing but a huge wind turbine sending power to other states. We do more than our share to support a clean economy. It is time for other states to chop up their birds and bats, destroy their views, force people to abandon their homes, etc.
