One of our staffers was watching American Idol (for research purposes) last night on the local Fox affiliate when the screen went blank on his set as the show ran over into the time slot designated for the nightly news cast, which is beamed over from sister station KTVZ (both stations are owned by the News Press and Gazette Co out of St. Joseph Missouri.) In the ensuing minutes, KFXO broadcast what appeared to be a live audio feed from KTVZ newsroom, apparently unbeknownst to the KTVZ crew whom viewers would have heard making crass comments about the Idol broadcast, which they were apparently watching in the newsroom, and discussing the station's practice of hiring comely female reporters and anchors.

After hearing a recording of the broadcast the Eye put a call into station manager Chris Gallu seeking comment. Gallu was not available at the time, and the Eye will update if or when we hear back. In the meantime we talked to another staffer who declined to discuss any aspect of the incident.

The following is a transcript of the audible portions of the exchange.

Male One (who appears to be commenting on Idol): "..this bizarre lost look"

Male 2: "Like someone just stole her panties."

Cough

Board sounds

Music fades in and out

Unidentified Male: "Is that Ewok music? Do you need a special test or something?"

breaks into bar of David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust...(no kidding)

Unidentified male: "Somebody asked me one time, they were like 'Dude, you hire the most beautiful women I have ever seen in my life. And then look at the dudes you hire.' And I'm like (inaudible), 'What do you want me to do, apologize for it?'"

"They could just never figure out how I would hire somebody who looks like her." (laughing) And then hire Vic (apparently in reference to former sportscaster Vic Quick)

"Like Laura...would ask me, 'Lee, (apparently in reference to news director and anchor Lee Anderson) how do you have all these good looking young girls and you've got Vic on with them."

Inaudible

Unidentified male: "Oh does she have all of her clothes on? I can't see a monitor."

Editor's note: Stay tuned for updates, including audio from the accidental broadcast. And, as we get more information, possibly an explanation from KTVZ.
