As you've no doubt noticed, the Source has completely re-vamped our website this week. We're pretty excited about the changes, most of which are very evident. The re-design is just part of a larger effort to keep the paper, if we can still call it that, relevant to a world that is becoming more and e-dependent. To that end we've incorporated some new tools into the site making it easier to share and comment on stories as well as to communicate with the authors and folks like me who are both contributors and gatekeepers. What is a little less tangible than the new bells and whistles is an overall shift in approach at the paper, away from a once a week, pile of refined wood-pulp that drops on your nearby streetcorner toward a product that is more essential and in touch with the everyday goings on around town. Don't get me wrong you'll still be getting the good old Source in your hands every Wednesday afternoon -- hot off the press -- but you'll also be seeing more regular new blasts, story updates, blog posts, and local video every day at tsweekly.com as we incorporate the web and web readers more and more into what we do every day.
I'm personally, kicking this effort off by re-purposing The Beacon, which served as our winter sports blog into a news and entertainment blog that will sit somewhere between the partisan politics over at the Wandering Eye and the local music focused Blender Blog.
I'll try to get some news and commentary up here on a daily basis that offers a little bit of insight into what's going on around Central Oregon. Or I might just use it to talk about fishing and my lovely daughters. Depends on the day.
