This week's letter comes from Phyllis Greenbach of Sunriver who adds her voice to the chorus of Americans wondering just what the Supreme Court was thinking when it lifted corporate campaign spending laws in the name of Free Speech. My insides weep for this country that I love. The ideals of America were noble. At least that's what I taught the children in my class. Every person, whether rich or poor, has worth and could participate in the system. I used to tell them about the Founding Fathers and the concept called Democracy. Above the chalkboard tacked to the wall was a large poster that said, "We, the People... " Every morning we used to stand, put our hands over our hearts, face Old Glory, and repeat the Pledge of Allegiance. Now the part ". . . with justice for all" sticks in my craw like gristle. Nostalgically I dismiss those powerful words as patriotic propaganda. The Supreme Court just shut out our voices for corporate America. Money talks louder than The People.
