While past performers have included emerging local talent along with a few top notch national and regional performers, the 2012 lineup takes the event to a level we’ve not seen in the past and will delight both long term residents and newcomers alike. All of the bands taking the stage this year could easily warrant $10 to $20 ticket prices at other venues, which makes the “free” nature of these concerts special.
Here’s a look at this year’s list of performers:
June 17- Harley Bourbon
This local punk and Americana band has been getting some great press for a while now and are perfectly positioned for that “I saw them when” concert experience.
June 24- Y La Bamba
Fronted by lead singer Luz Elena Mendoza and supported by a group of ultra-talented musicians, Y La Bamba have carved out a unique niche in the Portland music scene with their sometimes bilingual and always beautiful folk music.
July 1- MOsley WOtta
Here’s where the rubber meets the road. Longtime Bend residents are going to turn out to this show because they know to expect an energetic and creative performance from this hip-hip infused rock band and 2010 Last Band Standing winner. Those unfamiliar with the eclectic style of MOsley WOtta, simply need to mark their calendars for July 1 so they can experience something truly Central Oregon… a High Desert dance party.
July 8- The Portland Cello Project
Forget what you know about classical string music. In fact, be prepared to have your understanding of it turned on its head and spun around till you’re dizzy.
July 22- The Farewell Drifters
From Nashville Tennessee, The Farewell Drifters will bring clap-your-hands-and-sing-along worthy country-infused bluegrass with them to Central Oregon.
July 29- Paul Thorn
This Wisconsin-born singer-songwriter was a boxer before becoming a heavy weight in the genre of traditional American rock. He’s been at it for 15 years now and just keeps getting better.
August 12- The Features
Guitar is king as the Free Summer Sunday Concert series closes out the season with the sometimes pop and sometimes psychedelic rock of this high energy Tennessee band. Think Kings of Leon.
