Mt. B's D-Bag Gaffe

CEO Dave Rathbun curses at a pass holder and later apologizes via email.

It's no secret that Mt. Bachelor's relationship with its season pass holders runs hot and cold. Locals love to bash the mountain over pass prices, lift operations and just about every other aspect of the operation. That criticism is sometimes merited, but often just overdone. Bachelor has largely brushed off the barbs, but last weekend CEO Dave Rathbun stooped to the level of Bachelor's lowliest critics when he referred to a pass holder as a "douche bag." The expletive escaped in an exchange that was witnessed by dozens of guests at the bottom of Outback Express on Sunday morning. To be fair, the guest, as well as the rest of the crowd, had ignored signs that the area was closed while lift ops worked to get Outback running after a strong overnight storm. But Rathbun does himself, and the resort, no favors when he resorts to junior high put-downs in a lift line. Rathbun has since apologized via email to pass holders and. But seriously, Dave, wtf? If you want your pass holders to act like grownups, you might want to set an example.
