For all you drivers hoping to use the Mt. Washington/Reed Market roundabout, today is your last chance for over a month. Starting tomorrow, the roundabout will be closed at Century Drive for an expected 40 days, while the intersection is re-done with a concrete base.
Hardy Hanson, The Street Division Manager for the City of Bend, explained in a YouTube video created by the City of Bend, “[the] intention here is to replace the asphalt with a full nine inches of concrete and a stabilized base underneath, that should last us up to 50 years.”
Hanson said that the concrete is expected to perform well and if it does, it will be used in other roundabouts and intersections around the city. While Hanson asks the public, “to be patient and understand that we don’t have many alternatives,” he explained, “if done correctly we won’t have to be back in here for quite a long time, so it’s an investment for the future.”
