Murphy and Third Street Roundabout to get new art installation

Art in Public Places chose Gilded River—a kinetic art installation of ten tree sculptures—which will be installed at the Murphy and Third Street roundabout in summer 2016. The 22-foot high aspen-modeled trees will have over 1,000 gilded leaves, which will replicate fall foliage colors. Over the summer, more than 110 art submissions were received, and the three finalists who were chosen displayed replicas of their art proposals at the Deschutes Public Library downtown in October. During the two weeks the art models were on display, more than 1,300 people voted for their favorite models. “This was the largest turnout for public voting that we have ever received and we are thrilled,” said Sue Hollern of Art in Public Places. Art in Public Places works to improve public places with art design to help promote tourism and economic vitality.
