New Summer Shows! G. Love, Jackie Greene, Bill Nershi!

For those of you who've been bitching about as perceived lack of solid summer shows (because clearly, Sugarland isn't good enough for you...jeez...elitist), please stop

For those of you who've been bitching about as perceived lack of solid summer shows (because clearly, Sugarland isn't good enough for you...jeez...elitist), please stop your bitching because this week has seen a host of solid concert announcements.

First off, G. Love and Special Sauce are finally making it to town, thanks to the dutiful folks at Random Presents, with a show at the Midtown Ballroom on September 3. Known for his soulfully funky take on poppy blues, G. Love is a living legend on the live music scene and this show is a break from his stint opening for the Dave Matthews Band.

On August 23, Jackie Greene, who we featured the last time he played in Bend at the Tower, is coming back to town to play at the Athletic Club of Bend. Greene, known for his work with Phil Lesh and friends, put out a record last year entitled Giving Up the Ghost, which in the opinion of The Blender, was one of the best singer-songwriter discs of 2008. With a freight train's worth of power behind him and a lyrical wisdom that far exceeds his 28 years of age, Greene provides an incredible show that's both get-up-and-dance moments, along with slow, nod and smile cuts.

Also announced this week is a show from the Nershi and Law Duo, which roots music fans know means another amalgamation of String Cheese Incident frontman Bill Nershi and Portland-based guitar master Scott Law. The show is slated for August 14 at the Silver Moon Brewing Co. and given that the last time Nershi came to town with Law and the Piano Throwers the Domino Room was mostly full, this should be a packed dance party.
