Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St. $18 adv/$22 door/$30 both nights.

saturday 22

Chance McKinney

MUSIC—Just the titles of Chance McKinney's songs make you want to reach for a good set of cowboy boots and cold, long-necked bottles of beer: "When Rednecks Get Together," "She's My Whiskey" and "BeachBillies." This country music artist hits the stage with his guitar and his words and sets the whole place spinning. 9 pm. Maverick's Country Bar and Grill, 20565 Brinson Blvd. $7.

Last Saturday at the Old Iron Works

FUN AND FROLIC—Another month has sailed by, bringing another Last Saturday celebration. Collaborative art projects, ink pen creations and manipulated papers (think layered paint, charcoal, ink and spray paint) will delight the eyes; the sounds of Gold Rust, Second Son and Rural Demons will tickle the eardrums. 6 pm. saturday 22

Jazz at the Oxford: Mary Stallings Quartet

MUSIC—To the rhythmic grooves of Mel Brown's drums, the ivory-tickling of Tony Pacini and the deep-thumping beats of bassist Ed Bennett, jazz vocalist Mary Stallings sends her voice skyward. Her upbringing in gospel choirs, combined with her schooling in the night clubs of San Francisco, create an awesome, joyous noise. 8:15 pm The Oxford Hotel. 10 NW Minnesota Ave. $49.

sunday 23

Diego's Umbrella

MUSIC—Hailing from the hazy, crazy streets of San Francisco, the six dudes who huddle under this umbrella of gypsy rock often wear matching homemade outfits and have been known to take the stage without set lists. They are a vibrant combination of European gypsy music, Spanish flamenco, ska with a hint of polka rhythms, all with a twist of pop and rock. 8 pm. Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Dr., $8 at benticket.com, $10 at door.

sunday 23

Modern Grass

MUSIC—Bluegrass has more evolutionary trails and branches than reptiles and turtles put together. Modern Grass, as in the Nova Scotian band's name, falls into the category of "new-grass," a sound importing, of course traditional banjo picking and crooning about trains and lost lovers, but also part Yanni, part fusion. Yeah, new-grass. 7 pm. String Theory Music, limited seating, contact [email protected] or 541-678-0257. $10.

wednesday 26
