Brad Goldpaint’s Astrophotography

saturday 28

Local photographer Brad Goldpaint is earning accolades from MSNBC for his captivating portraits of the Oregon night sky. Goldpaint recently compiled some of the images that he has gathered over the past three years at places like Tumalo Falls, The Three Sisters Wilderness and Crater Lake into a slideshow showcasing his painstakingly shot time-lapse images. If you’re interested in seeing more of Goldpaint’s work up close and hearing how he “got the shot,” he’ll be at Christian and Regula Heeb’s Cascade Center of Photography Saturday, 6:30 p.m. Free. Clues, maps, trivia and running. It’s the best thing that could happen to your Saturday morning, if you are super competitive in the physical and mental prowess departments. And we sure don’t know anyone like that! Ahem. Register at urbanscramble.evenbrite.com. $20 for adults, $12 for children. 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Troy Field, NW Bond Street and Lousiana Avenue.

Brookswood Plaza Farmers Market Kick-off

saturday 28

There’s a bunch of cool things about Brookswood Plaza—a good grocery store, a happening coffee shop, a hyper local pizzeria and, now, its very own farmers market. To celebrate, the plaza is throwing a summer carnival with old-fashioned games, good food and, of course, fresh fruits and vegetables. Look for a jump rope contest, candy walk, and floating duck ring toss. It all feels very throw back and sweet. 3 to 7 p.m. Brookswood Plaza, 19530 Amber Meadow Dr.

Wings and Wheels

saturday 28

If you’re ever been faced with the difficult proposition of having to choose between attending a vintage car show or an airplane show, then you can really appreciate the planning acumen behind this event, which combines both hot rods and an air show in one  convenient location. It all starts with a pancake breakfast at the Sunriver Airport. $6 gets you breakfast.  Helicopter and plane rides if you want to dig deeper in your wallet. 7:30a.m. to noon, Sunriver Airport.

Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo

wednesday 1 to sunday 5

Where can you appreciate pickled beets, cross-stitch, really big cows and a former lead singer from Bad Company who’s not Paul Rodgers? It’s the Deschutes County Fair! Rodeo events, carnival rides and a ton of food vendors round out the family-friendly line-up of this classic county fair now in its 93rd year. For a full schedule of events, go to expo.deschutes.org. Big Head Todd and the Monsters

wednesday 1

Veterans of the road, Big Head Todd and the Monsters have paid their dues to the music industry. Formed in Colorado in 1986, the crew has maintained a successful career playing love songs for alt-college rock radio. Fresh off tour with comparable acts Barenaked Ladies and Blues Traveler, the guys are still ripping it up on stage after over 20 years. $26. 6:30 p.m. Tickets at Newport Market. Athletic Club of Bend, 61615 Athletic Club Dr.

Hot Tuna

thursday 2

Originally formed as a Jefferson Airplane side project by bassist Jack Casady and guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, Hot Tuna has been playing original and traditional blues tunes for over 40 years. The incarnations of the band have been plentiful but the guys are best known for their acoustic and electric blues jams that—no shit— can go on for up to six hours. We recommend prefunking. $35 to $50. Tickets at towertheatre.org. 7 p.m. Tower Theater, 835 NW Wall St.
