Planes, Trains and Automobiles

wednesday 21 and thursday 22

Come nightfall you'll likely be looking for respite from your relatives. This is an easy fix. Waddle on downtown and celebrate Thanksgiving with John Hughes' 1987 comedic classic. It's Steve Martin and John Candy (R.I.P.) at their finest. The Pan is serving dessert, wine and beer, so plan your eating schedule accordingly. $10. 6 p.m. Tin Pan Theater, 869 NW Tin Pan Alley.

The Boom Booms with The Steadies

friday 23

If you want to get your groove on this weekend, check out this Vancouver-based rock-pop sextet. They blend psychedelic rhythms with brass harmonies, which is good fro dancing. Imagine other crowd-jumping bands like Slightly Stoopid and O.A.R—these guys are similar. They'll be accompanied by another Canadian up-and-comer, The Steadies, a pop-reggae band. $5. 9:30 p.m. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

Fourth Annual Harvest Fest & Barrel Tasting Weekend

friday 23 and saturday 24

Combat your post-thanksgiving hangover with wine, jazz, local food and Oregon football. Maragas winery will uncork their 2011 Pinot Noir which will be paired with gourmet meats, honey and cheese from local farms. $10 or $5 with four cans of food to benefit for the Central Oregon Food Bank. 3 p.m. on Friday; 11 a.m. on Saturday Maragas Winery, 15523 SW Hwy 97.

Trumpeter Jeremy Pelt

Got family in town for the holidays? Take them to see rising jazz star Jeremy Pelt. He's a trumpeter who's playing with every big name in the industry. We hear tickets are sold out for Friday, but there's still some left for the 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. shows on Saturday. $49 at bendticket.com. Oxford Hotel, 10 NW Minnesota Ave.

Old Mill Santaland and Carriage Rides

friday 23 and sunday 25

Now, not every parent thinks that placing their children in the lap of a strange man with an over abundance of facial hair is a good idea, but, darn it, we think it's just a grand ol' American tradition. Make it a real outing and take a carriage ride, too. Old Mill District, 520 SW Powerhouse Dr.

Blackflowers Blacksun with Silvero

saturday 24

Central Oregon's alt-blues band is ready to take you back to 1963. On a porch. In rural Alaska. Because that's their thing. The gravely, slide-guitar-infused music will be a good fit for Silvero, a spooky three-piece Bend band. 21+. $5. 8 p.m., The Horned Hand, 507 NW Colorado Ave.

Civil War Football Game

saturday 24

This could be the biggest game of the year, for both teams. Both the Ducks and the Beavs are inside the BCS top-15 and, with the Ducks on a slide and the Beavers playing strong, their 116th match-up should be a good one. Round up your friends and head to any local pub to cheer on your favorite team. Or hunker down on a cozy couch—it's going to be a doozy. Oregon Ducks vs. Oregon State Beavers, Noon on PAC 12 Network.

Punch Brothers Featuring Chris Thile

monday 26

What do you get when you cross the singer of Nickel Creek with a banjo, an upright bass, a guitar and a violin? The purely awesome folk-fusion of the Punch Brothers, of course! Read our Sound section for more. $25-$50. 7:30 p.m. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

10 Barrel Charity Night

tuesday 27

Drinking beer for a good cause—as if you needed a reason. If you do, know this: 75-percent (!) of Tuesday night's sales will benefit the Education Foundation for Bend-La Pine Schools. To review: as you get dumber, you'll be helping others get smarter. 5-9 p.m. 10 Barrel Brewing Co., 1135 Galveston Ave.

Where the Trail Ends

thursday 29

If there's a limit to what folks can do on bike, this Red Bull film proves we haven't yet seen it. In what took three years to shoot, the filmmakers of this much-anticipated freeride mountain bike flick traveled the globe in search of new terrain. At times beautiful, at times harrowing, this is a must see. 21+. $10. 9 p.m. McMenamins, 700 NW Bond St.
