Ignite Bend 6

wednesday 9

Believe it or not, this is the sixth installment of Bend's take on the world-popular Ignite events, which place a presenter on the stage for five minutes, armed only with a microphone and a Power Point presentation of their choosing. Bend is just one of 50-plus Ignite events taking place across the world this week - so we're not the only ones who like this sort of thing. 7pm. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

Spoken Word Poet Buddy Wakefield

thursday 10

With the art of spoken word poetry taking hold here in Central Oregon, it's no surprise that we're getting one of the best in the business, Buddy Wakefield, is back in town to spill some verbal gymnastics. Wakefield, if you didn't know, is a two-time slam champion and will be hilarious and poetic as ever at this free show. 7pm Thursday, Feb 10. Hitchcock Auditorium, COCC, 2600 NW College Way. Free.

Conspirator, Break Science

thursday 10

This is another great last-minute show that we heard about late last week, and features two awesome live electronica acts. There's Conspirator, a NYC-based live trance act that features two members of the jam-electro kings, The Disco Biscuits. Also on the bill is Break Science, a super-spacey duo featuring the drum wizardry of Adam Deitch and the keyboard and producing talents of Borahm Lee. Seriously, this Deitch cat can really hit the skins. $15. Tickets available at bendticket.com. 9:30pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

Sixth-Annual Trivia Bee

friday 11

Question: What's the name of Rocky's opponent in Rocky IV? Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. ARRRRRRHHHHH! Times up. Answer: Ivan Drago. OK, chances are, that won't be a question at the sixth-annual Trivia Bee, which benefits the Bend LaPine Schools, but if it is, you're well equipped. Come watch your friends and neighbors compete for top honors - something that continually escapes the Source team each year at this event. $20, includes appetizers by Zydeco. 21 and up. 6pm Friday, Feb 11. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

Oliver!

opens friday 11

The Cascades Theatrical Company is bringing to life one of Dickens' most well-known stories with this presentation of Oliver! In case you skipped a grade or something and missed out on this one, the story tells of an innocent and lovable orphan boy who asked for more. Wednesdays-Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 2pm. $20/adults, $15/seniors, $10/students. Starts Friday, Feb 11. Greenwood Playhouse, 148 NW Greenwood Ave.

Del The Funky Homosapien

saturday 12

This high-ranking member of the indie hip-hop hierarch is making a return appearance here in Bend and is bringing along a nice slate of openers, including Bukue One, Serendipity Project, Attribute and Tony G. We had a chance to spin Del's latest disc, It Ain't Illegal Yet, this week and it's clear that he's still on the top of his game after two full decades in the rap game. And being the nice guy that he is, Del is coming out into the crowd early at 8pm for a meet and greet. Be there and shake hands with this fine man.

$17/adv, $20/door. 9pm. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Dusu Mali Band

saturday 12

Helmed by the nephew of guitar great Ali Farka Toure, Ibrahim Kelly, this band plays a blend of tunes that span the African content while also include elements of funk, electronic music and jazz. So if you're wondering if this has the makings for a dance party, the answer is an absolute "yes." $8/adv, $10/door. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

For the Love of Music

saturday 12

Keep the music flowing and join the Summit High School Friends of Music effort to raise money for the Summit Storm Music Department. Summit High School music students open for Bend's Flamenco guitar player, Todd Haaby and accompaniment. 25/adults, $18/students and seniors. 7pm. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

Ky-Mani Marley

tuesday 15

That last name sounds familiar, doesn't it? Yeah, this is indeed another one of Bob Marley's endlessly talented sons, and he brings with him a modernized take on reggae, hip-hop and rock. He also kinda looks like his dad... at least a little bit. $30, $35. 7:30pm. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

WinterFringe

thursday 17

WinterFest is kicking off a day early this year with a slate of events taking place downtown, including a performance by the fire dancers and jugglers of Fire Flyte. But then the party moves to the Century Center for a big show featuring two local music heavy weights with Mosley Wotta and Larry and His Flask. The latter will be one of our last chances to see these native sons before they head out on another big national tour. Begins downtown at 7pm and is free. Century Center concert is 21 and up, kicks off at 9pm and requires a WinterFest button for entrance.

Lovely, Still

thursday 17

This film made some waves at last year's BendFilm Festival and now the organization is screening the film again. The director of the film, Nicholas Fackler, who has been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award, will be in attendance and will speak following the film. $10. 7pm Thursday, Feb 17. Sisters Movie House, 720 Desperado Ct.
