Our Picks for 3/29-4/5

Five Pint Mary

friday 30

Sure, St. Patrick's Day is done and gone, but that doesn't mean you have to stop celebrating your Irish heritage, or lack thereof. Enter Celtic rockers Five Pint Mary - our own local version of The Chieftains. You've no doubt noticed that the folk-punk band has been playing around town with greater frequency as of late, and with frequency has come greater polish. See for yourself and kick off the weekend by taking in the eight-piece band and a pint or six. Long Live Ireland! Slainte! (That's 'Cheers!' in Gaelic, you balgair). $5. 8pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

Boxcar Stringband and Shade 13

saturday 31

There sure is a bunch of good local music this weekend (see above). Keep it rolling Saturday by supporting Bend's raddest rockabilly rogues, Boxcar Stringband. Part Delta blues, part alt-country and all rock, the three-piece band always seems right at home at The Horned Hand. Harder and faster, the garage-band surf rockers Shade 13 should provide worthy accompaniment. $5. 9pm. The Horned Hand, 507 NW Colorado Ave.

Book Sale

saturday 31 - sunday 1

Pick up a heap of books for dirt-cheap prices and support the Deschutes County Library. It's win-win. Free admission. 10am-4pm Saturday; 1pm- 4pm Sunday. Deschutes County Library Administration Building, 507 NW Wall St.

Trent Romens

sunday 1

An old-soul blues musician in the body of a high school senior. Over the last year, Trent don't-call-me-Bieber Romens has been sweeping the nation with his blues guitar. To top off the banner year, his recently released debut album, Aware, was nominated for a Grammy. The Source crystal ball has foreseen big things for this 19-year-old, so check him out now so that you, too, can be one of those annoying music snobs that brags, "I saw him before he got big." $5. 7:30pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 507 NW Colorado Ave.

Rachel Brooke and Viva Le Vox

sunday 1

Turn the page to read more about the sweet Michigan country crooner, her dark side and Viva Le Vox, the rowdy swamp-rock blues duo touring with Brooke. Boom Chick, a Brooklyn band of two, opens the show. $7. 8pm. The Horned Hand, 507 NW Colorado Ave.

Free Cone Day

tuesday 3

Ignore the calorie content and get yourself down to Ben & Jerry's on Tuesday to claim your free cone full of cold, sweet, creamy goodness. Need more reason to eat ice cream? Local "celebrity scoopers" will dish it out, including such Bend blockbuster names as Good Morning Central Oregon host Kristi Miller, Bend City Councilor Jodie Barram and Deschutes County Commissioners Tammy Baney and Alan Unger. Free! 12- 8pm. Ben & Jerry's, 680 SW Powerhouse Dr, #101.

Are You My Mother?

tuesday 3

Am I the only person who's had to read this book aloud to my three-year-old, like, a thousand times? I hope not. As a subtle form of revenge and possibly masochism, I am requiring that she sit through some or all of this production. And I recommend you do the same for your child. Seriously, file this one under "contemporary classic." This is the next best thing to Seuss. $12 adults, $8 children. 6pm. The Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

League of Women Voters: Telfer vs. Knopp Debate

tuesday 3

Former Speaker of the House and Republican party heavyweight, Tim Knopp, announced that he'd challenge his fellow Republican Chris Telfer for her seat in the Oregon Senate and ever since it's been the talk of the May primary statewide. Speculation runs rampant as to why Knopp would take on an incumbent from his own party. What we do know, is that the fur is going to fly, even in the typically staid and scripted event. There's nothing quite like a family feud in the public square. Free. 5:15pm. Deschutes Public Library, Downtown. 601 NW Wall.

International Fly Fishing Film Festival

wednesday 4

If you didn't get enough fly casting and lip ripping with the Fly Fishing Film Tour in February, or thought that you got enough and now realize that you didn't, you're in luck. Local outfitter Scott Cook of Fly and Field has arranged for the upstart and buzz heavy International Fly Fishing Film Festival (IF4) to screen roughly two hours worth of B.C. chrome, Costa Rican silver and Canadian pike. And if that last sentence made any sense to you, then pay attention to the next one. This is a one-night, one-show event at The Tower Theatre. So get your tickets today - before they disappear like fickle brown trout under a dragging dry. Advance tickets, $17 at Fly and Field Outfitters. Doors at 6pm, show at 7pm. The Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

Annie Get Your Gun

thursday 5

Adorable kids from Bend Experimental Art Theatre put on this Wild West show-within-a-show about Annie Oakley. You already know some of the songs including "There's No Business Like Show Business" and "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better" and they probably won't mind if you hum along. $10 for students 18 and under, $15 for adults and seniors at beattickets.org. Five shows: 7pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday; 2pm Saturday; 4pm Sunday. Bend High School Auditorium, 230 NE 6th St.
