What to do in Bend, Oregon the week of 3/9 - 3/17/2011.

Breathe EZ Benefit Concert

and Silent Auction

Thursday 10

We told you about this benefit show last week for Erin Zurflu, and even provided a gorgeous photo of her, but it's worth mentioning again that this show will help raise money for Zurflu, who has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in her lung. Check out the lineup of acts coming out to support her: Sara Jackson-Holman, Chris Beland, The Erins, and Elliot. $10 or more donation. 6pm. Century Center, 70 SW Century Drive.

Matt Hopper &
The Roman Candles

thursday 10

This show was a late announcement, but we're glad to let you know about it because Matt Hopper is the one of our most loved out-of-town singer-songwriters. With a Ryan Adams-like approach to his songs, Hopper has slowly become a Bend favorite, and for good reason. Josh Hart opens. $5. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

Sunny Ledfurd

friday 11

Yeah, we know we're not supposed to judge anything by its cover, but the shot on the front of Ledfurd's greatest hits album features the country rock singer holding a beer in one hand and a huge trophy in the other. And that, dear readers, is a good example of the sort of gritty - yet delightfully contemporary - tunes that Ledfurd is known for. $12/adv, $15/door. 21-plus. 9pm. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

9th Annual Grin and
Bear It Run

saturday 12

Oh come on, don't let the name of this race scare you off... you can do it! There are 5K and 10K race options, as well as a family fun run/walk that benefits Healthy Beginnings, a local nonprofit that assists young children in obtaining medical screenings. Entry forms available at www.myhb.org. 10am Les Schwab Amphitheater, 344 SW Shevlin-Hixon Dr.

Lacrosse: Oregon vs.
Boise State

saturday 12

While the football matchup between these two schools would have been interesting this year, a lacrosse game between the two played right here in Bend won't be too shabby either. The Ducks and the Broncos meet up at Summit Stadium as a benefit for the Summit Booster Club. 2pm. Summit High School, 2855 NW Clearwater Dr.

Jerry Joseph &
The Jackmormons

saturday 12

We had a chance to chat with underground rock legend Jerry Joseph last year and got reacquainted with the longstanding songwriter and bandleader's excellent catalogue. Now, he's coming back and playing in the cozy Silver Moon and is sure to rock your damn face off, son. $12/adv, $15/door. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

9th Annual Central Oregon

Third Annual Jim Jam

sunday 13

It's seems like only yesterday that we were reading Jim Witty's awesome outdoor pieces in The Bulletin. While the writer has indeed passed on, his memory lives on through this annual celebration of music and good times. Bring your guitar or other instrument for the open jam session. 1pm-4pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

The Sweet Harlots Irish
Drinking Song Sing-Along

thursday 17

Lead singer Laurel Brauns (who also writes our Outdoors column) grew up listening to Irish music brought over by her grandparents. In college, she studied at the University of Ireland, Galway, and developed a repertoire of songs, ranging from rebel sing-alongs, tales of unrequited love, and revved-up drinking songs. Sing your heart out while enjoying Silver Moon's special St. Patrick's Day brew, O'Seanigan's Irish Red. Songbooks provided. 8:30pm-12am. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

The Commitments

thursday 17

Want to watch a movie about an Irish band that doesn't play Celtic music? The Commitments, the 1991 film adaptation of the novel of the same name tells the story of a group of unemployed Dubliners who form a soul band. Jimmy Rabbitte (Robert Arkins) aspires to manage the world's greatest band. Disgusted with bands in Ireland, he assembles a soul band in the tradition of Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, James Brown and Wilson Pickett. $5. 8pm. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

McMenamins St. Patrick's
Day Celebration

thursday 17

You didn't think McMenamins would be down with one mere day of St. Patrick's Day celebration, did you? We'll have more on the entire weekend of festivities in next week's St. Patty's Day run down, but as for the holiday itself, make sure you see The Mother Hips (10pm)/Parson Red Heads (8pm) dual bill in the movie theater.
