Brew Festival

A beer festival like this would be tough to pull off in most other places in this country, but here in Bend, this specialty brew celebration has become a huge hit. Now in its third year, the Little Woody features barrel-aged beers from almost all of Central Oregon's breweries, as well as some new additions from out of town. If you like big, bold beers, this is where you should be this weekend. If you're not as adventurous, that's fine, too - there are some lighter specialty beers. Also, there's a Northwest whiskey tasting for the truly bold among us. In addition, you'll find music, food vendors and much more. 5-10pm Friday, Noon-10pm Saturday. Sadly, summer is coming to an end and that's an enormous bummer for all of us, but there's one last Show Us Your Spokes concert left for you to dance your little heart out on the Parrilla parking lot. This week features a double bill consisting of local reggae-tinged pop rocker Franchot Tone and Sisters' veteran singer/songwriter powerhouse, Anastacia. Sunrise to Summit/Bend to Bachelor

This is an event for runners and cyclists, or folks who fancy themselves as both. Run up Mt. Bachelor or ride to the parking lot and trade in your bike shoes for sneakers before going for the top. Due to snow, the running route is new this year, but the bike route is the same and both will hurt. Do either race solo or rally a buddy and compete as a bike/run relay team. So there's this emerging fad in which movie theaters simulcast, via satellite, live musical concerts so fans around the world can pretend like they're seeing their favorite bands in concert. We think this is a good trend and last week mentioned that the Red Hot Chili Peppers were playing a live show to celebrate their new album. Now, two instrumental masters - Clapton and Marsalis (and Taj Mahal is set to sit in a few cuts, too) - join forces to play a live show in New York that you can watch in the comfort of your neighborhood movie theater. 7:30pm. Portland Cello Project

One of the most innovative acts in all of the Northwest, the Portland Cello Project knows their stuff when it comes to classical music, but they're also well versed in pop, rock and roll and just about anything else you can think of. These guys kick ass. Every time Diego's Umbrella brings their gypsy-pirate-polka sound from San Francisco to Bend, Silver Moon becomes swollen with smiling, dancing hooligans clambering for more. And with songs, like "Pants" who could blame them? Check out their website for a taste of their music and don't forget to sample their "Booze Ass" ad. A genius and totally hilarious idea. Wait a minute, it's 'cross season already? It is if you live in the cyclocross-crazed Northwest. The four-race Thrilla series is a great way to dial-in your bike and tune-up your barrier skills before heading over to the Portland area for the bulk of the 'cross season. You can register on-site or at Webcyclery for $15 per race or pay $50 for the series. Juniors and Beginners start at 5:25pm and Men A and B start at 6:15pm. 4:30pm-7pm Thursday, Sep 8.
