Northwest Hoop Gathering

friday-sunday, 10-12

According to local hoop guru Mollie "Hoopdazzle" Hogan, Bend has become a hotspot for this gyrating sport/artform, which is illustrated by this massive gathering of hoopers from around the world. Hoopers of all ability levels are welcome to attend this event that includes big names in hooping like Hoopgirl, Hoopalicious, Spiral and Baxter. According to Hogan, "This is equivalent to having Lance Armstrong teach a cycling class during the Cascade Cycling Classic, or having Mick Jagger teach a guitar class." Tickets available at hoopdazzle.com or at northwesthoopgathering.com. Summit High School, 2855 NW Clearwater Dr.

Indie Nights

Back From the Dead

For this week's ration of bluegrass and Americana, we suggest you get yourself to this bookstore appearance by Back From the Dead, a long-time local act with an arsenal of old-time and not-so old time cuts from folks like John Prine, Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, Woody Guthrie and Tom Waits. 6:30pm-8:30pm. Dudley's BookShop Café, 135 NW Minnesota Ave.

Bayliens

This Bay Area crew is comprised of Enzyme Dynamite and Jay Three and has been recording for almost five years now. The crew is stopping off downtown for what should be a packed show within the cozy confines of the Bendistillery Martini Bar (850 NW Brooks St.). 9pm. 21 and up.

Total Roller Derby Insanity

saturday 11

If you love roller derby and we mean really love roller derby, this is probably going to be the best thing since Christmas for you. You have the ability to take in two roller derby bouts in one night. First it's the Lava City Roller Dolls battling Boise's Treasure Valley Roller Girls at 6pm over at the Central Oregon Indoor Sports Center (20795 High Desert Ln. $10/adv, $12/door, $6/seniors and children under 12, Free for kids 5 and under). Then, the Renegade Rollergirls get all crazy when they engage in a rare CO-ED throwdown with the Spokane Outlaws. That's right, co-ed! It's women smashing men, men colliding with women and it's all legal! Midtown Music Hall (51 NW Greenwood Ave. 8pm $10, Kids under 10 free).

Afroman

sunday 12

See the On Stage column for the latest on why you should spend part of your Easter Sunday with one of rap music's goofiest men. And yes, if you needed a reminder, this is, indeed, the man who brought you the classic track "Because I Got High." All ages. 7:30pm. $15/adv, $18/door. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Weinland

wednesday 15

Ever since this band played here in Bend almost exactly a year ago, this Portland band has become a favorite around the Source offices. With a modern take on cerebral folk rock, one could liken Weinland to fellow Portlander M. Ward. But what sets these guys - fronted by John Adam Weinland Shearer - apart is a strong hold on Americana stylings. Oh, and they put on a hell of a show, which this time around is totally free. All ages. 7pm. Free. McMenamins Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St.

Beer Wars

thursday 16

We love our beer here in these parts. We drink it, talk about it, wear shirts advertising our favorite brewery and now we have a movie all about beer coming to town. This documentary investigates the world of craft brewing and how it is faring in a world still dominated by the massive beer companies. Only downside: it's hosted by former funny man and current disingenuous political pundit Ben Stein. But hey, it's about beer, so give it a look. The screening is followed by a panel discussion featuring brewers and industry experts. 8pm. Old Mill Stadium 16, 680 SW Powerhouse Dr.

White Buffalo

thursday 16

Make no mistake. This. Dude. Is. Freaking. Awesome. With a booming, rampaging voice and a quiver full of slightly dark yet gorgeous folk rock numbers, The White Buffalo is an Americana gem and a veteran of the Sisters Folk Festival. The man is returning to Sisters, and this one is more than worth the drive out of town - if you don't already live in Sisters, that is. 7pm. $10. Three Creeks Brewing Co., 721 Desperado Ct.
