Out of Town 11/13-11/20

thursday 13 - sunday 16

It might be a little hard to wrap your brain around at first glance, but believe us when we say that Dan Savage’s HUMP! is good for the world. The Northwest-based, sex positive, amateur-produced porn festival is the only of its kind, inviting five-minute submissions of all types— gay, straight, fetish-loving, furry, centaur, fluffers, fire, swingers, trans, Dungeons & Dragons, and every kink in-between. Films are destroyed after showing (you can be a porn star for a day, not the rest of your life) and viewings span the breadth of human emotion, from hilarious to touching, awkward, sexy and just plain awesome. Desert your predilections and enjoy some homemade porn. Various times. Cinema 21.

friday 14

First Aid Kit

After going internationally viral with a cover of the Fleet Foxes song “Tiger Mountain Peasant Song” in 2008, First Aid Kit has made three studio records and performed with some of music’s biggest names. Harmonious voices matched hand-in-glove, Swedish duo First Aid Kit mix natural musical beauty with a country twang. If modern day sirens existed, sisters Johana and Klara Söderberg would effortlessly lure sailors to the rocks. 8 pm. Roseland. $22.

friday 14

Bat Boy the Musical

Halloween is over, but that doesn’t mean the freaky, horrifying storytelling ends in October! November can be terrifying, too! And hilarious! Bat Boy, the off-Broadway pop-rock musical, exploits the shock-value tabloid headline from the Weekly World News…half-boy, half-bat, all camp. How does an impish boy who was raised in a cave make his way in the world? Why are all the cattle in Bat Boys’ town inexplicably dying? Watch and find out via song. 7:30 pm. Funhouse Lounge. $20.

saturday 15

Chuck Palahniuk

Chuck Palahniuk doesn’t write holiday books—or, at least not the type Disney would make into a movie. Author of “Choke” and, of course, “Fight Club,” the prolific and somewhat elusive writer is on hand to sign copies of his latest, “Beautiful You,” a feverish and racy story about a mid-level marketing associate, dubbed as “the nerd’s Cinderella,” who finds herself in the middle of a sex toy scandal that makes men obsolete and women into “titillated zombies.” 2 pm. Powell’s City of Books. Free.
