Out of Town 1/1 - 1/9

The Builders & The Butchers

The only comparable voice to that of Ryan Sollee—singer of the Builders and the Butchers—is the froggy power of Colin Meloy, singer for another Portland mainstay, The Decemberists. The B&B's 2013 album, Western Medicine, is a chaotic folk whirlwind with deconstructed drum work, cowboy waltzes and bluesy murder ballads. Portland groups Tiburones and Old Age open. 9 pm. Doug Fir. $12.

saturday 11

Colleen Coover, Paul Tobin, Wook Jin Clark

The writers and artist behind "Adventure Time," the Cartoon Network show turned comic book, beloved for its quirky tales of a boy and his dog with magical powers (suck it, Hobbes) and for its colorful, imaginative art, debut their newest print mini-series. Adventure Time: Flip Side, sees Finn, Jake and Princess Bubblegum take on a new challenge from the Adventurer's Posting Board with range from absolutely adorable to heartbreaking. Noon. Cosmic Monkey Comics. Free.

thursday 16

Tracy Morgan

Remember that time that Dave Chappelle performed in Portland, and you missed it, and then all your friends talked about how funny it was for the next five years? We anticipate that this is going to be kind of like that. Any comedian that can play a parody of his own outlandish character, and outshine Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey while doing it, is a welcome performer in Portland (Morgan will perform five times in three days at Helium Comedy Club). From 30 Rock fame, to Saturday Night Live shenanigans, to pretending to pass out at the Emmys, Tracy Morgan is wild, shirtless and unpredictable—all great qualities for a standup comedian. 8 pm. Helium Comedy Club. $35-42.

Hey Marseilles

It's by chance that Seattle's orchestral-pop ensemble, Hey Marseilles has seven members. Singer and 1/7 of the group's songwriting team, Matt Bishop told the Source that the band just kept adding members until they couldn't fit anyone else on stage. This snowball approach has proved advantageous, giving the group's music a depth and dimension that many pop groups miss, and was only a hindrance on long van rides and during their NPR Tiny Desk Concert. Cataldo opens. 8 pm. Neumos. $15.
