Out of Town 2/7 - 2/13

Portland

thursday 7

All Walking Dead Pub Quiz

It's back, just like that walker you smashed upside the head with a hammer! AMC's "The Walking Dead" premieres part II of season 3 on Sunday the 10th, and to celebrate, McMenemins is giving away a bunch of free stuff. The quiz will be presented by actors playing characters from the show including Rick Grimes, Leia Young and HOLY SHIT THERE'S A ZOMBIE RIGHT BEHIND YOU! 7 p.m. Mission Theater.

thursday 7-sunday 10

Agate & Mineral Show

Rocks on rocks. Focusing on cabochons (cut, shaped, and polished rocks), an array of agate, jasper and obsidian from the Pacific Northwest will be on display. The 62nd annual event draws all kinds of rock aficionados; probably the same type of people who hoard geodes in their basements and still think gold mining is a profitable trade. 9:30 a.m. Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.

saturday 9

AmaZine Day

The Portland Zine Symposium presents a small press zine-fest. Independent publications will be available for sale and trade in a mini-zine marketplace. Writing, comics, live music and art will all play a role in the day and a Valentine/anti-valentine reading will take place at 5 p.m. Workshops on how to make your own Valen-zine as well as soda, beer and pizza will be provided. 2 p.m. Independent Publishing Resource Center.

thursday 7- sunday 23

Portland International Film Festival

PIFF takes over the city to help you get though the overcast letdown that is Portland winter. The opening night film Blancanieves, is the Spanish equivalent of The Artist described as a silent reworking of the fairytale "Snow White," all black and white, of course. Other films shown during February include Carlos Reygadas Post Tenebras Lux a documentary about Marilyn Monroe called Love Marilyn, and 125 other global cinematic gems. Expect subtitles. Various venues and times. SW
