Out of Town 3/12-3/20

friday 14

Technically, Mardi Gras is over, but Galactic won't tell anyone if you don't. The New Orleans-based funk and jazz jam band brings its hip-hop influenced fusion of styles to the Northwest just in time to keep that carefree spirit going. It's no secret that Bendites love a good jam band—just be sure to bring your dancing shoes, because Galactic will have the Crystal's infamously bouncy floor bumping with special guests Cyril and Ivan Neville, Mystikal and Mannie Fresh. 9 pm. Crystal Ballroom. $25-$32.

St. Patty's Day at McMenamins

St. Patrick's Day is about more than green beer, jolly Leprechauns, and unsolicited pinching. McMenamins highlights the best of Irish culture at its Kennedy School location with performances by The Twangshifters, River City Pipe Band, Kathryn Claire, and Irish Family Hooley with the Murray Irish Dancers. To fuel the day's festivities, the pub will offer a special St. Patrick's Day Whiskey release in addition to its Irish Stout, Irish coffee cocktails and Irish food specials. Noon. McMenamins Kennedy School. Free.

The Lion King

It's been 20 years since Disney released its epic Lion King film, and in that time, the musical version has taken on a life of its own and become a worldwide sensation. The Tony Award-winning show combines puppetry, elaborate costumes, and impressive vocal and dance numbers to create a moving production that speaks to broad themes about life and death, good and evil. The musical adaptation includes favorites from the original film score, such as "Circle of Life" and "Hakuna Matata," as well as new songs to accompany expanded storylines. 8 pm. The Paramount Theatre. $81-$155. Runs through April 6.

sunday 16

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

Rock icon Joan Jett may be on the casino and county fair circuit these days, but that doesn't make her any less of a badass. Instead, fans of the legend—famous for classics like "Bad Reputation," "Crimson and Clover," and "I Love Rock and Roll"—get to enjoy Jett's powerful vocals and the driving rhythms of her backing Blackhearts in smaller venues. While Jett reached the height of her popularity in the 1980s, the original "riot grrl" inspired generations of female musicians to follow, and is still going strong touring for her 10th album, Unvarnished, released last September. 7 pm. Snoqualmie Casino. $35.55-$83.60.
