Jeff Bridges & The Abiders

sunday 7

Fortunately Jeff Bridges has a gravely, zen-like speaking voice—it means his singing voice is a whole lot like that, too. In Crazy Heart, a 2009 film about a fallen country music star, Bridge showcased that rugged voice. Since that film, he has collaborated on covers of Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash with acclaimed cow-punk singer/songwriter Neko Case. 8 p.m. Aladdin Theater, $69.50.

Spiritualized

tuesday 9

Think Beck plus reverb meets Flaming Lip's hypnotist feedback with a Bowie-esque space obsession. Jason Pierce, who often goes by the alias J. Spaceman, has been cranking out epic art-rock since 1990, in which time he's gone through 22 band members and produced seven studio albums. Apparently, it's rough working with an astronaut, but despite the rotating lineup, Spiritualized is known for his psychedelic and energetic shows. 7:30 p.m. Wonder Ballroom, $18-20.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Sharon Van Etten

sunday 7

Nick Cave's monotone gothic pop is second only to Leonard Cohen in his ability to bum people out. Fifteen studio albums deep, Cave and The Bad Seeds still inspire the same overwhelming depression in fans that they did in 1984. Sharon Van Etten's sultry voice should be a complement to Cave's dark and seedy set. 8 p.m. Paramount Theater, $35.75-$75.75.
