Christina Perri

Competition show "So You Think You Dance" has not only opened up a new generation to modern dance—and jettisoned a cadre of young dancers to relative fame and career prospects—it also raised the profile of some otherwise obscure musicians. Before each choreographed piece, the show's viewers glimpse the title of the song providing the soundtrack and the not-always-big name of the artist. These two minutes of fame have proven especially potent for singer-songwriter Christina Perri. Her song, "Jar of Hearts," began climbing digital charts shortly after the episode aired. And her upcoming show in Portland was moved from the cozy Wonder Ballroom to the expansive Crystal due to "popular demand." Perri, who has not yet released her debut album, is clearly going places (not the least of which—on tour with Jason Mraz). 7:30 pm, Crystal Ballroom, $25-$30.

Princess

No, this is not the stage name for the tutu-clad, pop-obsessed pair of British girls who regularly appear on the Ellen Show. (Though the pretty-in-pink duo did just release Sophia Grace and Rosie's Royal Adventure. Our condolences to parents everywhere.) Princess is a Prince cover band, featuring (wait for it) Saturday Night Live alum Maya Rudolph and Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Gretchen Lieberum. The funny lady appears to take her commitment to the flamboyant performer's music quite seriously; this is no parody for the daughter of a musician and composer. If you love Prince like college friends Maya and Gretchen do, you'll dust off your raspberry beret, hop in your little red corvette, and take me with you. 8 pm, Wonder Ballroom, $30.

Perfect Pussy and Potty Mouth with Chastity Belt

SXSW-approved band Perfect Pussy clearly isn't into mincing words. The woman-fronted punk outfit from Syracuse has something to say, and they aren't shy. Lead singer Meredith Graves tells it like it is and she isn't afraid of the f-word—feminism, that is. Whether she's taking the punk scene to task for its misogyny or mixing menstrual blood into limited edition albums (sorry, guys, they already sold out), Graves is brutally and beautifully honest. But this isn't the Meredith Graves Show. The band shares the load equally, both musically—the tracks are mixed so that Graves' powerfully vocals are on the same level as the other instruments—and personally—the band makes a point to set aside "feelings time." Because accountability and vulnerability are totally punk. 9 pm. Secret show at The Black Lodge.

Hugh Laurie and The Copper Bottom Band

Hugh Laurie—best known as the actor who plays the sharp-tongued, pill-popping Dr. House—has a pretty successful side gig as a professional musician (and a British accent, in case you didn't know). The actor's longtime fascination with American blues and soul music led to his well-received debut album Let Them Talk, which dove into NOLA's unique blues roots. His sophomore effort, Didn't Rain, taps into the sounds of the American heartland and covers classic musicians from Jelly Roll Morton to Dr. John. Laurie's love for the music is clear, and he obviously knows his way around a piano. He's not recreating the genre, and he has no such illusions. But for listeners who never had the chance to catch the blues greats, Laurie's passion rouses their ghosts for a soulful visitation. 8 pm, the Paramount Theatre, $31.25-$61.25.
