David Sedaris

Known for his self-deprecating autobiographical essays and uncanny ability to make life's awkward moments laugh-out-loud funny, David Sedaris is a national treasure. Nominated for the 2014 Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album (read: best audio book) for his most recent collection of essays, Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls—among such heavyweights as Stephen Colbert, Carol Burnett, Billy Crystal and Pete Seeger—Sedaris will read the stories that have so successfully whacked the nation's funny bone. 6 pm. Powell's Books at Cedar Hills Crossing. Free.

Cher with Cyndi Lauper

Cher wasn't kidding when she sang, "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" on the soundtrack to the 2010 film Burlesque. Case in point: While her previous tour was initially "The Farewell Tour" it was later dubbed "The Never Can Say Goodbye Tour," for now-obvious reasons. The only artist to have a No. 1 hit in six decades, the Goddess of Pop is back on the road, this time with the likewise unstoppable Cyndi Lauper (who is, somehow, also in her 60s). These girls just want to have fun, and who are we to get in their way? 7:30 pm. The Moda Center. $25.50-$105.50.

Joan Baez

This folk rock icon is a force, in both music and activism. Just three years after releasing her first album, Joan Baez performed "We Shall Overcome" at the historic 1963 March on Washington. Her music became part of the soundtrack to the anti-war and civil rights movements. Her activist rap sheet is only rivaled by her prolific discography, with 24 studio albums in two languages and 10 live albums over the course of 50 years. In short: this woman is a legend. 8 pm. Britt Pavilion. $25-$62.

Oregon Bach Festival: Canadian Brass

Founded almost 45 years ago, this prolific brass quintet has recorded more than 100 albums and DVDs while maintaining an intense international touring schedule and commissioning and performing original works. These guys are the real deal. Known for their quirky performance "uniform" of formal black suits with white running shoes, they have been dubbed the "Kings of Brass" and the "world's leading brass ensemble." And while they have serious classical chops, they've been known to dabble in pop. Check out their interpretation of Lady Gaga's, "Brass Romance." 7:30 pm. Silva Concert Hall. $15-$53.
