Pickathon

By festival lovers for festival lovers, Pickathon is clean, safe and packed with bands to discover; six forest-clad stages! The party is also seriously sustainable, using zero single-use dishes and utensils with a solar array that generates enough electricity in the year to offset all of the energy used by the craft and food vendors. In its 15th year, the 2013 Pickathon lineup includes Feist, Andrew Bird, Divine Fits, Kurt Vile and the Violators, Sharon Van Etten, JD McPherson, and Foxygen, giving each act two sets during the weekend so attendees are sure not to miss a thing. Check out our Sound story on pg. 21 for more. Pendarvis Farm. $130-260.

SMMR BMMR

No vowels, all rock. This festival—started by a crew of Portlanders that wanted to get drunk and dance to their friends' garage bands—gathers a ramshackle, rag-tag group of artists from around the Northwest in a showcase of raw punk power. Lots of leather jackets, acheep-beers and a sweaty mosh pit, SMMR BMMR is one of Portland's least predictable festivals, meaning attendees have a high chance of discovering something amazing, for example, any of this year's performers including Kepi Ghoulie, La Luz, Primitive Hearts, The Bugs or Summer Twins. 5 pm. Star Theater. $13-20.

Bacon Cup

The major leagues of bacon cooking. Portland businesses and chefs go head-to-head with the goal of creating the briniest, fattiest bacon-based dish accompanied by live bands and lard wrestling. Previous winners include The Sausage Shack and EB Smokey's BBQ. This year, the event is advertising over 1,000 pounds of bacon creations. Geared for the 21-and-over crowd, Dante's encourages heavy beer drinking to counteract the salty delicacies. Pre-event apologies to our arteries and livers. 8 pm. Dante's. $6-12

Oregon Jamboree

The Oregon Jamboree is pretty predictable. Big names in big boots and big hats. This year, 22 of country music's best and about 13,000 fans will descend on the tiny town of Sweet Home—more than doubling its regular population—for a fundraiser that supports the town's infrastructure. Toby Keith, Luke Bryan and Dwight Yoakam headline the three-day camping music festival. Sweet Home. $145.
