The Super Bowl

The Seahawks take on the Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII (that's 48 for those not up to snuff on their Roman numerals). Who will win? Who will lose? Who will go nuts on camera and give the world its next viral video? How will cornerback Richard Sherman offend half the adult males in America, and entertain the other half? Will Peyton Manning cry in his soup? What commercial will be most talked about? One billion people want to know! For now, though, the main question is where to watch it in Seattle in preparation for a possible city-wide celebration. Any sports bar worth its due will be playing the game, but two recommendations: For maximum viewing experience, Von Trapp's will have 14 televisions showing the game. For ambiance, The Bait Shop has unlimited plates of nachos for $10, Beast Mode shots for $3 every time the Hawks score, and, if Marshawn Lynch scores a TD, "free Skittles will rain down like rainbow-colored hail from the heavens of victory." 3:30pm game time.

RuPaul's Drag Race Battle of the Seasons

After a Sunday afternoon of men running around in tight pants in the pursuit of sports glory, change things up a bit with a Tuesday evening of men running around in tight dresses in pursuit of performance glory. Stars from the reality television show RuPaul's Drag Race, including Sharon Needles, Detox, Pandora Boxx and Alaska Thunder f***, take to the stage for a sequin-and-drama-filled drag show, with live singing as well as the show's famous lip-synch-for-your-life battles. 7:30 doors, 8:30 show time. The Moore Theatre. $27.50-$47.50.

Isabel Allende

A fictional book on a Bay Area serial killer and the brilliant, introverted teenager who tracks him with knowledge gained from an online fantasy game screams more Stephen King than Isabel Allende. But the human rights activist and best-selling Chilean author of "The House of the Spirits" is setting aside her usual sweeping works of magical realism and historical fiction with her first foray into the crime thriller genre with "Ripper." 7:30pm. Newmark Theatre. $38.99 for admission and a copy of the book.

Fertile Ground: A City-Wide Festival of New Works

Whether in the mood for quirky black box theater, avant-garde dance productions, home-spun musical theater, sob-worthy staged readings, experimental film or comedic performances in the tone of Shakespeare or Kids in the Hall, Portland's Fertile Ground Festival has all artistic tastes covered. This 11-day festival, now it its sixth year, began on the 23rd and runs through Sunday. While most fringe festivals cull artists from around the country and world, Fertile Ground pulls only from local artists, whether long-time established performance companies to up-and-coming rag-tag troupes, creating a true Portland artistic explosion. Times, locations and prices vary, see www.fertilegroundpdx.org for information.
