Phone Book Harassment

Letter of the Week

If you own or rent a house in Central Oregon you know what this week's letter writer is talking about. We put the phone book bombardment right up there with the Bulletin's Marketplace free classified in the pantheon of unwanted commercial litter. If we stopped telemarketers, can't we stop driveway marketers, too? Just a thought.

Dear City of Bend:

What gives with the f'ing phone books? Do I have a monthly subscription that I don't know about? Christ all mighty, what happened to once a year? It seems like I just finally brought one in off my steps and this morning I find another one laying there. I'm having nightmares about being squeezed out of my house by phone books multiplying in my drawer like mold in a Petri dish. I thought the Internet made these things obsolete. I thought we were cutting down too many trees in the first place. All I'm saying is: slow down. Please, just slow down. Take a vacation for, say, twelve months.
