Running Out Daylight

The changes and effects Daylight Savings has on us.

Why is it so hard to get rid of some old things? Take changing the time all over the country. Granted Daylight Savings Time is not a bad idea in that it allows us to enjoy a longer "light" period each day in the spring and summer. But why not set it, and forget it?

I could understand changing the clocks two times each year if some sinister corporation was making tons of money on it. But, I don't think that's happening.

DST had a purpose when first instituted way back in the early 1900s, then it was abolished, then someone saw fit to bring it back.

But nowadays, it seems kind of arcane, outmoded and downright annoying.

As I write this, on the first evening of daylight savings time, I am thinking, I should be in bed, it's almost 11pm. But my biological clock is telling me, it's "really only almost 10pm."

Same thing tomorrow morning when the alarm goes off at 6:01 a.m. My body will rebel because it feels like it's 5:01 a.m.

Why do we put ourselves through this twice a year?

Why not let sleep cycles remain consistent all year long?

A friend pointed out that Indians are more pragmatic, and wisely observe that, "Only the government could try to make us believe that by cutting the top off a blanket and sewing it on the bottom do we get a longer blanket."

If a smart politician wanted to really do something that would be appreciated, they should do away with changing the clocks twice a year.

While they're at it, how about doing away with the Electoral's completely arcane too.
