Spring Music Preview - Pato Banton, Andre Nickatina, Brandi Carlile and More

A sample of Bend's live music schedule for the spring.

Although we're only in mid February and we haven't even enjoyed the musical fruits of WinterFest yet, it's time to look to spring and see what's in store on the local live music front.

There's been a few announcements for March and April in the past two weeks, including word of return appearances from reggae legend Pato Banton at the Domino Room on March 12 and yet another gangsta rap throw down from Andre Nickatina set for April 17, also at the Domino.

March as a whole is looking good with shows from Poor Man's Whiskey on March 13 at the Domino Room, Trombone Shorty out at the Sisters Folk Festival Winter Concert Series on March 16. There's also Vince Hermann and the boys of Great American Taxi at the Silver Moon on March 18 and we can't forget about Brandi Carlile's two-night stand at the Tower Theatre.

It looks like both of the Carlile shows are sold out already, but if you can come by tickets, do it. While I had shoveled her off into the pop-star region of my mental musical catalog, all that changed when I saw her last June. She's an incredible songwriter and performer with a clear background in great folk rock. And her voice will blow you away.

There's plenty of other spring shows on the way, too. Get high with Afroman (4/25, Domino Room), skank with Voodoo Glow Skulls (3/27, Mountain's Edge) and be generally impressed by Bruce Cockburn (4/24, Tower Theatre).

We at the Blender believe in good ol' American justice -- and every other kind of justice.
