Spring Theater Productions Have Sprung in Bend

Thus far, 2011 has proved to be a thriving year for the Bend theater scene.

Thus far, 2011 has proved to be a thriving year for the Bend theater scene. Tuesdays with Morrie goes into its final week, closing on Sunday, April 3. The Bend Experimental Arts Theatre brings the Broadway classic Guys and Dolls to the Summit High School auditorium this week. As time goes on, the theater scene continues to thrive and here are a few good bets to satisfy your need for a good story.

2^nd Street Theater

Don't forget, on Friday, April 1, 2^nd Street Theater teams up with Bend Improv group to tickle your funny bone on April Fools Day with A Night of Jokers and Fools. The evening features stand-up comedy from Celeste Franklin, Doug Morgan, Kelly Edwards and comedy from the Bend Improv Group. $8. 8pm Friday, Apr 1. 2^nd Street plans to throw a big 10^th anniversary celebration show on April 29 and 30. The shows celebrate 10 years of professional plays and musicals in production at the theater. $25. 8pm Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30. 2^nd Street Theater, 220 NE Lafayette Ave.

Hot Flashes The Musical

As a benefit for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, Hot Flashes returns to the Tower Theatre. The show, which sold out in Bend when it came in 2004 and 2006, follows the career of a five-woman band ranging in age from 40 to north of 70. The five women embrace the challenges of aging through humor, personal reflection and via song through a wide variety of musical styles. The show features such songs as, "I Am Woman, Hear Me Snore," and "You're Never too Old to Rock." Before the show, attendees are invited to soothe their hot flashes with libations, conversation and post-menopausal prizes such as fused glass yard art, organic produce delivery and more. $35-40. 7pm Saturday, April 16. Pride and Prejudice

Though performances of the Jane Austen classic tale don't begin until May, we thought you might want to plan ahead. Enter the world of desperate spinsters, determined bachelors, nosey neighbors and embarrassing relatives. The classic tale of marital courtship comes to the stage at Summit High School. $10/adults, $7/students, seniors and children. 7pm May 13, 19-21; 3pm May 14 and 21.
