Stop Face Paint Discrimination

As a regular reader I find your advice and opinions on our surrounding area quite to the point and very sound. For this reason I come to you with a simple story of basic acceptance. Today was picture day at Summit High School and although the fine young ladies attending were all dolled up in the finest face enhancing products my son, a junior, was asked to wash his face or to leave the property, as he decided to compliment his fine bone structure.

Like many of the girls who show their gratitude to the likes of Audrey Hepburn through impersonation, my son chose to show his great appreciation for the late Heath Ledger. When I was phoned regarding the situation at hand I asked specifically if there was a written rule against facial enhancement; the faculty stated that the color of his skin was causing a disruption.

My son simply asked if he could sit in his classes until his instructor or another student could be reached who was offended. When none could be found, they asked him to leave anyway. I admit, I too am offended when I see very young girls painted up in a way that I find would be better suited at, say, a business found in Las Vegas, but I don't ask them to leave.

I am also offended when these same children get enhancing medical procedures as a birthday gift from their, often absent, parents. But I don't ask them to leave. It is, I guess, a matter of opinion.
