Sustained Heat

Locals Warm Gadget release second full-length album

Warm Gadget has been producing some of the most interesting, nightmarish and industrial electro-metal in the area for nearly five years. Correction: the only nightmarish industrial electro-metal in the area.

Warm Gadget is made up of a backbone of heavy discordant guitar and mechanized programed drum beats by Colton Williams, throat-rattling vocals by Tim Vester, analog drums by Jason Schmidt and Eric Metzger's bellowing bass. The glitch-filled, heavy and borderline bro-core band has sustained through transitioning record labels, writing film scores for successful (and one failed) horror movies and several drummers, but has been absent from the live music lineup for the last few years. Warm Gadget released its second full-length album, Brides, in April and celebrates the release this Saturday at Volcanic Theatre Pub.

"We've been around in different incarnations," said Vester. "It never really died, we just stopped doing live shows."

Vester and Williams have been in the Central Oregon music scene since they were kids growing up in Redmond and developed Warm Gadget out of the crumbled remnants of other defunct local groups.

"When we first started, I was still playing in The Kronkmen and Colton had just put an end to Vihara," explained Vester. "Over many, many beers we decided we both liked horror movies and horror movie scores and we wanted to start the band."

Brides retains a level of assailing, metal violence that inspired the band. The biggest difference, said Vester, is that it was recorded with a live band.

"Instead of Colton and myself recording and programing drum beats after, we recorded with a live band. After we got all that down, Colton and I spent a long time adding electronic elements."

And the time spent and attention to detail shows; Brides is by far Warm Gadget's most polished release. The reunited chaos rockers the Kronkmen will help the band celebrate a triumphant return to the Bend metal scene.
