The Source Suggests 6/26-7/3

Possessed by Paul James

Konrad Wert, a seasoned Austin songwriter, guitarist, banjo and fiddle player and, by day, a schoolteacher, isn't resistant to the musical spirit taking him when he performs.

"Whatever's gonna come is gonna come," he told NPR in an interview earlier this year. "For me, that's the purest pleasure of playing music: It's almost a conversation, with a listener and a musician."

His most recent album, 2013's There Will Be Nights When I'm Lonely is folk perfection. Crafted from raw emotion with a borderline gospel, in live performances, each song only ignites further. 9 pm. Tue., July 1. Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Dr. $10. (BB)

Ashleigh Flynn

With alto vocals-- throaty and soothing—and simply crafted Americana songs, Ashleigh Flynn embodies a new country aesthetic that kicks up dust in the barn, climbs every tree it finds and sails to the ground with the lightness of a falling leaf. Dropping in snippets of ragtime, bluegrass, highway folk and pop add texture to Flynn's charismatic compositions. 7 pm. Wed., July 2. McMenamins, 700 NW Bond St. Free. (BB)

Larry and His Flask Benefit

In a case of bad things happening to good people, while on a national tour opening for glam rockers Foxy Shazam, local band Larry and His Flask had its van and trailer stolen from outside a hotel in Cayce, S.C. Inside was all of their musical equipment (about $24,000 worth), merchandise and personal belongings. The six-piece is still on the road, attempting to finish out its tour with donated and borrowed instruments. Local friends, family and bands, including MOsley WOtta, High Desert Hooligans, Noah Stroup, Patrimony and Harley Bourbon (what a lineup!) will host a benefit concert and auction to raise money to help the band keep on trucking despite its loss. 8 pm. Sat., June 28. Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Dr. $10 suggested donation. (BB)
