The Source Suggests

Thunder Egg Consort

Slicing open the hard exterior to reveal the gorgeous luminous innards of classical music, pianist Monica Ohuchi, violinists Anthea Krestonand and Kenji Bunch, and cellist Jason Duckles have traced the globe playing music. Each artist has their own unique and impressive resume, degrees from Juliard among the accomplishments. The four musicians all now call Oregon home and will perform works from Mozart, Franck, and Dvorak, alongside High Desert Chamber Music for its final concert of the season. (BB)

Sat., May 3

7:30 pm. | Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St. | $35.

Orgone vs. Monophonics

Orgone, an L.A. septet, doles out funk pulled from a time in the late '60 when jazzier compositions combined with cool, low-key soul music. The result is a wide ranging music, from thoughtful jams to danceable funk. They share the bill with San Francisco-based Monophonics, a group of seven musicians who aptly draw from the same period of time (the late '60s), but hail from the Bay Area, when music was decidedly more psychedelic. A collaborative set between the bands should provide an explosive context for these players to explore. (DJC)

Wed., May 7

9 pm. | Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.| $15.

The Horde and the Harem

"Fair Weather Friends," the title track from The Horde and the Harem's most recent EP, does just about everything that the Seattle. band does best. The song combines'60s pop sensibilities and tinny guitars with airy, female backup harmonies and handclapping kick-ups. The lush layers of the band's music build on the vegetation of its rainy birthplace, blanketing keys and guitar in a Pacific Northwest indie pop tradition of ukuleles, melodicas and reverb. (BB)

Sat., May 3

9 pm. | Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Dr. | $5.
