Three Creeks: Movin' On Up 

New production facility and seasonal beer series kicking off

The local brewery known all around Oregon for its FivePine Chocolate Porter (and locally for being the one place you really can't walk to when marathoning the Bend Ale Trail) is about to make its presence far more known.

Since its founding in 2008, Three Creeks Brewing Company has produced solid beer and pub food from its barnlike building on the outskirts of Sisters. However, in the local scene, it's tended to play second fiddle to the 10 Barrels and Deschuteses of the world, partly due to geographical remoteness and partly due to maxing out its tiny production capacity just to keep up with demand for Fivepine, Raptor Rye IPA, and so on. But that'll change early next year, when a new 30-barrel production system is due to open up in northern Sisters, housed in a new facility designed by the same architects who did up Wild Ride Brew's snazzy taproom in Redmond.

Alongside this expansion, Three Creeks is also launching the new "Desperado" series of seasonal bottle releases. It kicks off this month with Bulletproof Coffee Stout, an 8.0%-ABV stout with heavy malt flavor and fairly intense coffee on the nose and palate.

What comes after that? A lot more experimentation than before. With the freedom to devote the new facility to production of its mainstay brands, Three Creeks will have the freedom to use the old system in the brewpub to exercise its creative muscles a bit. The brewpub system will be run by Chris Hudson, who's new to Central Oregon but has been brewing for six years at places like Widmer in Portland and Terminal Gravity in Enterprise. The next seasonal bottle comes in January with TenPine (described by Hudson as "basically the FivePine recipe doubled"), with a strong ale and imperial IPA coming later in 2015.
