Trail Update: The dirt is magical and Biketoberfest

Get while the getting is good and lend COTA a hand at Biketoberfest.

Intrepid singlespeeder and friend of the Source, Jeff Dengel, took this shot on a ride yesterday. You're looking at the Metolius Windigo trail by the Broken Top split, which is damn near the highest point on the Metolius Windigo/Flagline loop (~6,900 ft.).

While this snow will likely melt off before the upper trails become permanently buried for the season, the window for riding up high is narrowing. But that doesn't mean the end of the mountain bike season.

Recent rainfall and freezing nighttime temps have helped keep things firm, which allows for hero-riding through the three-bajillion corners on our Central Oregon trails. We're in that lovely period when the singletrack is free of tourons and the dirt is magical.

Put on an extra layer and enjoy it. If history repeats itself again this season, expect such conditions to last through the first week of December (at least below 5,000 ft.).

And to keep the trails super-awesome, lend a hand on Saturday at COTA's Biketoberfest. The full day event involves trail work, bbq, coffee and more.

On Sunday, check out the second 'cross race in the CrossAflixion Cup series at Seventh Mountain Resort. This one won't be dusty and hot — we promise.
