Trail Work Party At Redmond Radlands

And, a new PistenBully for Meissner?

Do you like sweet new trails? Of course you do! But trails with flow don't build themselves, so get your ass out to Redmond this weekend and lend a hand on Saturday morning.

The Central Oregon Trail Alliance is organizing a trail-work event to help flesh out the trail system at Radlands, aka the Northeast Redmond Trail Complex. There's already six miles of trail over varied terrain, but the goal is to build 20 or so miles, said COTA's Chris Dodson.

"Anybody can have a good time out there," Dodson said of the beginner-to-intermediate-friendly riding. "And the views are outstanding. You can see Smith Rock, Three Sisters, and the Ochocos. It's pretty cool, actually."

If you need more of an incentive, after the work party there's free Deschutes beer in the High Desert Sports Complex.

Details, details: 9 a.m. Saturday, March 9 (breakfast at 8:30 a.m.), work till 1 p.m. Meet at Radlands trailhead, High Desert Sports Complex, 1859 NE Maple Ave. Bring/wear: hydration pack with water and snack; work shoes; gloves, eye protection (sunglasses); long pants. Beer afterward. (JW)

Meissner angling for New Grooming Machine

If you're still in ski mode (and you should be—Central Oregon winter isn't even CLOSE to being over), head up to Virginia Meissner Sno Park Saturday morning and enjoy freshly groomed trails, courtesy of what COULD be Meissner Nordic's new grooming machine.

The area nonprofit is demo-ing a brand new PistenBully 100, a large, proven machine that the board members are hoping to purchase. A reliable grooming machine means more and better ski trails for winters to come! But the contraptions don't come cheap—a new PistenBully can cost nearly $200,000. That's why Meissner Nordic is launching a capital campaign. Hopefully, with enough funds, the club can make it happen. If you'd like to donate, you can do so at meissnernordic.org.

Details, details: morning of Saturday, March 9. Enjoy trails groomed by the machine Meissner Nordic hopes to purchase. A PistenBully representative, as well as the regular grooming crew, will be on hand to answer questions. Donate at meissnernordic.org. (JW)
