Turn Your Lights Down

It seems as if lots of people whose vehicles are equipped with fog lights are not aware of the laws regarding their usage. The Oregon Driver's Manual states about fog lights, "These lights are illegal to have in operation at times when you are required to dim your headlights." That means turn off those fog lights when you are within 500 feet of an oncoming vehicle or following within 350 feet of another vehicle. Why? Because, "Headlight glare... can blind another driver." This is particularly true if the vehicle with glaring lights is a tall pick-up or SUV. So please, keep all of us safe from accidents that can be caused by a driver blinded by your headlights, not to mention the fact that you can get a ticket for using those fog lights when prohibited. Let's all of us have a happy and safe new year.
