Tweakers on the Speakers

Nature boys. Tweak Bird looks like hippie freakers and sound like a jet engine, a strange combination of traits that is only the edge of the weirdness emitted by this pair of Los Angeles-based brothers. With a helping hand from producers Dale Crover (Melvins) and Toshi Kasai (Big Business), Caleb and Ashton Bird released a quirky steamroller of an EP dubbed Reservations in September that showcases the duo's ability to produce an F'in S-load of sound with only drums and guitar.

Don't let the guitar/drum lineup fool you - these dudes aren't the White Stripes and they're also not the Black Keys. Tweak Bird is rock to the core and don't seem shy about tossing any sort of rock and roll experimentation the Bird family happen to have lying around. When Tweak Bird says on its MySpace profile (which lists Michael Jordan as an influence) that the band sounds like "everything good you've never heard," the brothers are spot on. They have the heaviness of the aforementioned Melvins, but also possess the experimental capabilities of say, an early Flaming Lips.

The band appears in Bend on Tuesday night as part of the Volcom's Blizzard Bizzarre Tour along with Seattle rockers Kandi Coded - a band fronted by snowboarding legend Jamie Lynn. - Mike Bookey
