Walden Finds His Misplaced Sense of Outrage

Talking to Greta Van Sustern on Fox News the other day, Rep. Greg Walden said he thinks Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner should resign because of the AIG bonus mess.

"I've lost confidence in him, I think America has lost confidence in him, and many in the Congress have," Walden says. "And you're hearing more and more members of Congress, House and Senate, coming forward and joining in this call for him to go."

It's certainly fair to question Geithner's performance; in fact, The Wandering Eye is none too delighted with it either.

But Carla Axtman on the Blue Oregon blog asks what also seems like a fair question: Where was Walden's sense of righteous outrage during all the Bush administration's scandals and screw-ups?

Axtman notes that Walden did not call for the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld (architect of the original failed Iraq occupation strategy), Michael "You're Doing a Heck of a Job, Brownie" Brown (in charge of the Federal Emergency Management Agency during the Katrina debacle) or Attorney General Alberto Gonzales (who was forced to resign after stonewalling Congress about the politically motivated firings of assorted U.S. attorneys, among other things).

"In all, 42 Bush Administration officials resigned under a cloud of disgrace," Axtman writes. "As far as I can tell, Walden didn't call for a single one of them to resign before they left."

I’m really sorry to break the bad news to them during this season of peace and goodwill, but after this week the right-wingers in Bend and vicinity won’t have The Wandering Eye to kick around anymore. The decision to stop writing this blog was my own, and it was prompted by several factors. More »

For the past week or so, “Zeo” of the NW Republican blog has had his jock strap in a knot over the prospect of Congress repealing the military’s “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” rule. To hear Zeo tell it, if DADT is repealed and gays are allowed to serve openly in the US military it will mean the end not only of our armed forces but of America, its economic system and civilization in general.
