Where some may just see a pile of trash, eco-minded creative types see the latest fashions. Add to the holiday spirit the sustainable spirit of this year's Rubbish Renewed Eco Fashion Show. This fundraising event for REALMS Charter School's Arts Program features eclectic, wearable art in a runway show, as well as a live and silent auction and a gallery marketplace where contributing local artists sell and showcase their renewed creations. The Breast of Bend 2010

When an organization tells you in the their press release that their benefit event is "a night of music, art, fashion, bikes and boobs," it's tough not to be at least a little curious. This fundraiser for the Keep a Breast foundation features an auction of breasts casts, dancing, a fashion show by Vanilla Urban Threads and a live set from The Autonomics - who just might be the hottest Bend-rooted band on the scene right now. $8/door or in adv at Vanilla. 8pm. Brent Alan

Although he's a constant fixture on the festival stages over the summer, Brent Alan, one of Central Oregon's most steadfast performers, has been quiet this fall. That said, he's exploding with two shows this weekend - first a full-band set at the Silver Moon on Friday night (10pm) and then he'll show the true fabric of his songwriting with a solo show as part of the Largent House Concert series on Sunday (7pm). Dirksen Derby

Now in its fourth year, the Dirksen Derby is a two-day snowriding event that benefits Tyler Eklund, by raising money and awareness. Eklund was seriously injured four years ago while snowboarding in California. The Derby is a free-ride event emphasizing the need for speed on a technically banked rally course sprinkled with bamboo gates, hay bails, cliff drops and plenty of airtime. Events include races in categories for both men and women of all ages. $25/category, $50/with lift ticket. Check-in from 8am-10am. Mt. Bachelor.
Cross-Kultural Carnival

Here's another one of the events surrounding the Cyclocross National Championships and it looks to be a blow-out of the highest degree with live music, an interactive performance by sketch comedy group, So Spun We Spun West. Himalayan Holiday

Ten Friends is a local non-profit whose mission is to help improve lives with simple, hands-on projects. This holiday season, shop from their holiday marketplace and enjoy the satisfaction of knowing you're helping those at the Ten Friends Himalayan Education Center. The Himalayan Holiday includes food, music, and beverages, all near a crackling fire. The marketplace offers a selection of original Christmas gifts from Nepal. The Northstar Session

Dick Dale

We learned a few things about Dick Dale this week. The first thing is that his yacht was, and possibly still is, for sale (check out dickdale.com for details). And secondly, he is still probably the greatest surf guitarist ever. If you've never heard his lighting-fast riffs and excellent melodies, attendance is mandatory at this show.
