friday 10
Tyler, the Creator
MUSIC— Tyler, the Creator is as talented as he is offensive. Drugs, sex, race and sexual orientation are all fair game for the 22-year-old SoCal rapper. He's managed three albums in four years, and his most recent, Wolf, earned him a full-page spread in Rolling Stone. Appearing with special guest Earl Sweatshirt. All ages. 9 pm. Midtown Ballroom, 51 NW Greenwood Ave. $23. (See Sound page.)
friday 10
Sunset Limited
THEATER—Cormac McCarthy is the best living author of our time. He's the next frickin' Faulkner, OK? From Southwestern gothic to lonesome post-apocalyptic, McCarthy's got it covered. His second play, Sunset Limited, is a "Black" meets "White" (literally, those are the characters' names) retrospective. It's a less boring Waiting for Godot. Opening night. 2nd Street Theater, 220 NE Lafayette Ave. $15. (See Culture page.)
saturday 11

It's all part of National Historic Preservation Month. 12-4 pm. Des Chutes Historical Museum, 129 NW Idaho Ave. Free.

sunday 12
Call Your Mother
MOM'S DAY—Or better yet, spend the day together! Pull on some running shoes for the low-key 5K/10K Mom's Day Dash (9 am, Les Schwab Amphitheater), then take her out for a fancy brunch at 10 Below, McMenamins, Crossings, or any of the destination resorts. Coolest event, though, is the two-mile wildflower hike and creekside brunch at Rimrock Ranch. Call 541-330-0017 to register.
monday 13
Media Salon
OPRAH—The Source's debut Media Salon. A think & drink event. It's like our newspaper comes to life as Editor Phil "Oprah" Busse Q&As with three engaging guests from our "Modern Moms" issue. 7 pm, Broken Top Bottle Shop, 1740 NW Pence Lane. Free.
monday 13
Room 237
FILM—Stanley Kubrick's 1980 The Shining (yes, filmed in part at Timberline) is both one of the greatest showcases for Jack Nicholson's unnerving craziness and a (literally) chilling psychological thriller. It also has spawned a cult following. The essay-documentary Room 237 explores that fanaticism and surrounding cloud of conspiracy theories—some hilariously mockable, others frighteningly convincing. 8pm. Tin Pan Theater, 869 NW Tin Pan Alley. $6.
thursday 16
Hillstomp
MUSIC—Kick off summer right with the rock-bluegrass duo at Crow's Feet Commons' courtyard. Deschutes, Bend's oldest brewery, will take over all the taps at the bike/ski/coffee/beer shop inside the historic Rademacher house. Outside, it'll be tough to sit still, with all the beer drinkin' and banjo pickin' going on. 5 pm. Crow's Feet Commons, 875 NW Brooks St. Free.
