Our Picks for 11/18 - 11/26: Moon Mountain Ramblers, Too Slim and the Taildraggers, The Ascetic Junkies, GWAR, Renegade Rollergirls

What to do in Central Oregon 11/18 - 11/26.

Moon Mountain Ramblers

friday 20

It seems that most recent Moon Mountain Ramlers shows are connected with some sort of holiday extravaganza... their Labor Day weekend festival, the recent Halloween Hoedown, and of course their New Year's Eve show next month. But sometimes it's nice to just see a normal Ramblers show in a normal packed bar. Not too much to ask, right? $7. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

Too Slim and the Taildraggers

friday 20

This Seattle-based rock quartet is fronted by Tim "Too Slim" Langford and offers a tear-down-the-house mix of blues, rock, country and much more. Check out the band's new record, Free Your Mind. $13/adv, $15/door. 8pm. The Annex, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Columbia River Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals

friday-Sunday 20-22

Say what you will about rodeo, but once you put on a ten gallon and get yourself inside one of these things, it's really a different world. This showcase features some of the best cowboys in all of Oregon, Washington and Northern Idaho, so yeah, yeehaw, friends. Friday and Sunday $14. Saturday $16. Sunday performance at 1:30pm. 7pm. Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center, 3800 SW Airport Way, Redmond.

The Ascetic Junkies, Mai

saturday 21

This Portland act caught our ear last month and we've been spinning its record, One Shoe Over the Cuckoo's Nest, on a regular basis. Fronted by a couple that migrated west from Boston, the Ascetic Junkies have robust sound that bounces between indie folk and Americana while not shying away from what seem to be a primal urge to rock. Excellent harmonies abound. Moon Mountain Ramblers' Mai opens. $5. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

Renegade Rollergirls Bout

saturday 21

Hooray for elbows to the face and fists to the gut! The Renegade Rollergirls have returned for another bruise-packed season! Bring the whole family, kids under 10 get in free. $10. 7pm. Midtown Ballroom, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Brad Jones CD Release

saturday 21

Hit the Sound page for our full-page feature on this local keyboardist turned pop music mastermind. Mostest, Defekt and Manic support the show. $5/door. 9pm. The Annex. 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Volcanic Theater:
The Santaland Diaries

tuesday 24

We all like to say we like theater, but many of us like hanging out in bars more. Well, now the two are coming together thanks to the newly formed Volcanic Theater, which will be presenting shows in local pubs. The first installment is a one-man show from Derek Sitter, who is performing David Sedaris' "Santaland Diaries," a story about working as an elf in a department store. $5. 8pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

wednesday 25

OK, you don't want, by any means, to bring the family to the Midtown for the somewhat annual fake blood and real goo extravaganza which is a GWAR show. The alien metal monster band has returned, complete with all their costumes and raunchy stage props to help you work up an appetite for Thanksgiving. This show also features the premier of snowboarding film Nice Try. Hosted by Danger Erhen of MTV's Jackass. Remember that show? 7pm. Midtown Ballroom, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Leif James & The Struggle

wednesday 25

Got family in town for Thanksgiving and you're not quite sure what to do with them the night before the big feast? Head down to McMenamins where Leif James and his tight Americana outfit are playing this totally free show. Bring the kids, it's all ages. 7pm. McMenamins Old St. Francis School. 700 NW Bond St.

I Like Pie Fun Run

thursday 26

There's something called a Hungarian Thanksgiving someone once told us about and it has something to do with eating, running, eating, and running more. Well, this is just a run and you do the eating later, on your own time. Start off the holiday with a run/walk a 2K, 5K or 10-miles, eat pie and raise some money and food for NeighborImpact. Held directly behind the FootZone. T-shirts available to pre-registered participants. Call 317-3568 for more info. 9am-11am. Foot Zone, 845 Wall Street.
